5 stars (Very cool DVD player. Great for commutes or traveling) - For the price you can't go wrong. I use this mini-dvd player on the bus to work.

I tape the Daily Show, Mad TV, etc via ATI 2.0 usb TV wonder for the computer on DVD-rw discs in Video CD Mode. In VCD mode you can fit up to 80 mins on the mini dvd disc. You can buy Memorex three dvd-rw for $11.99 on Amazon and reuse them over and over. In addition to watching video, you can use as a music player or jpeg picture viewer using reusable cd-rw's. I bought 5 Memorex CD-rw for 8.99. The mini cd's hold 210MB, enough for 50-100 mp3 songs or 50-400 pictures.

Obviously for this to be worthwhile you need to have the ability to record shows, unless you want to watch the bugs bunny disc that comes with it over and over. So if you got a computer capable of recording TV programs, a dvd burner, dvd editing software and the ability to format the discs, you will have a cool and very cheap portable entertainment system. The recording process sounds complicated, however it's similar to a VCR you set the timer to record the show into a folder, then you burn to a disc. The burning time for a 2.4x dvd for 2 -30 min shows is about 10 mins. The sound is excellent on this player and it comes with 4 AA rechargeable batteries and charger. You get around 1-2 hours on a full charge. So if you pick up an extra 4 rechargeable batteries you will always have enough juice to work this thing. This is a nice present for someone who likes gadgets or the kids. At first I was a little wary about watching this dvd player on the bus, but the laughs I get from the Daily Show and not having to look at all the miserable faces on my way to work makes this a solid investment. However you can save your money and read a book or newspaper instead.
