Velocity DVD-R 8X 4.7 GB Discs (50-spindle) review: 2 stars (Not 8x) - They only record at 4x. Look very cheap, too. I should have stuck with Memorex. 5 stars (Work perfectly with both my DVD writers and DVD players) - Just received my order yesterday and tried these discs on my BENQ DW1620 and Sony DW-D26A with Nero 6.6.0.12. The burning is flawlessly.
In my previously experience, bad media will usually have a uneven shade of burn mark on the recording side(purple)after the burning. Usually uneven shade of burn mark means trouble to me while playing back the disc. However, these Velocity 8x DVD-R have even shade of burnt mark.
I tested 4 burnt discs by playing back on both of my Toshiba and Panasonic DVD players and the playback was smooth without any checker box or freeze screen.
A trick that maybe helpful for other users, while I am burning my DVD, I will leave my computer alone without accessing any program. This way can reserve all the resource from the computer to the burner. When I first had my DVD burner, I did not know this trick and I did had some numbers of coaster back then. 1 stars (I won't but it again) - I bought a box of Velocity DVD-R 8X (different quantity) before and gave it to my friend. He threw all the DVD's into garbage can after he tried first one. He made a lot of DVD copies before, but never got this kind of bad blank DVD.
I also bought a box of CD/DVD cases of this brand. The top one is cracked when I received it.
I'm not sure if it's my bad luck or the products have bad quality, but I won't buy any products of this brand again.
